Ryan Olsen
Director of Lending/CLO
Industrial Credit Union
Ryan grew up in the waiting area of MaPS Credit Union in Salem, Oregon, where his parents frequently went for auto loans. He learned the value of a hard day’s work as a farm crop irrigator during the summers of his high school years in the beautiful Willamette Valley. He learned the value of a hard night’s work during college as a bingo caller and accountant in an ugly, smoky warehouse in Ferndale, Washington. Looking back, he says farming was way more fun.
Ryan has worked for credit unions the whole time he’s been a grown-up. At this point that means over 25 years in the movement. He has a BA in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from Western Washington University (’97), which is why he got a job as a teller with Whatcom Educational Credit Union. He was a teller for a brief period of time before moving to Collections. He loved Collections (seriously), but let himself be talked into becoming an Underwriter. After a brief stint as an Underwriter, Ryan worked as Consumer Loan Manager and then as Consumer & Indirect Loan Manager for WECU before moving to San Francisco in June of 2010, joining SF Fire Credit Union as Director of Lending, responsible for lending and collections.
The Pacific Northwest pulled Ryan and his family back in after a couple short years in San Francisco. He continued his work and credit union education with BECU in branch operations before joining Industrial Credit Union as Director of Lending/CLO.
Ryan graduated from WCMS with High Honors as a member of the Eta class of 2009. Since 2016 Ryan has served as Director of Consumer Lending for Pacific NW Federal Credit Union in the Portland, Oregon area. He currently serves on the WCMS Alumni Association Board of Directors as 1st Vice President.
Ryan lives with his family in Vancouver, Washington and his “hobbies” include coaching youth soccer, attending youth orchestra performances, and as many concerts and sporting events as possible. He loves hanging out with his wife, Erin, and his kids, Simon, age 18, and Miles, age 14. Despite his current location he is a die-hard Seattle Sounders FC supporter and follows Arsenal FC in the Premier League. He has a frog tattoo (and started a trend?) obtained at the Pomona Tattoo Expo during the middle weekend of his 3rd year at WCMS. No, it didn’t hurt.
